Programs

Travel Programs

Regular season travel programs start the beginning of September and finish in April. Short season high school teams end in in late November. Each regular season travel team typically has a team practice hour and a skills hour during the week. All practices and skills are at our home rink, Weymouth Connell Rink. On weekends the team will travel to various south shore rinks and play against another towns. On occasion there's (2) games on a weekend.

Many teams will play (1) or (2) tournaments in throughout the season. This is all organized and handled by the team, not Weymouth Youth Hockey (WYH). The coaches need to work with their level directors to get Bye requests in from the leagues, so they don't get scheduled for games that weekend. Many coaches will ask a parent(s) to be a team manager to help organize outside activities like parties and tournaments.

Squirts U10 and older may enter district playdowns to secure a spot in the state tournament. This is something coaches will discuss with the team and level directors after the season starts.

For more information on the leagues Weymouth Youth Hockey (WYH) plays in go to our Leagues page.

House Programs

League-wide 3 on 3 Tournament

Weymouth Youth Hockey (WYH) hosts an in-house 3 vs 3 League for interested players who are enrolled in our regular season programs.

There are two divisions; a Younger Division for U6, U8, and U10 players, and an Older Division for U12 and U14 players. Teams will have players from multiple age groups, but players will only play against players of their own age/skill level.

The Younger Division will have either 4, 6 or 8 teams (depending on registrations) while the Older Division will have 4 teams. All games are played on half ice surfaces, so two games will be played at once. Each team will play a minimum of 8 games and each player will receive a 3 on 3 team jersey. The top 4 teams in each division will advance to the playoffs. The cost is $150 per skater. No charge for Goalies. All games will be played at the Connell Rink in Weymouth.

Once registrations are completed, the House League Director will meet with the Level Directors to create teams that are split as evenly as possible. Each team will have 9 skaters and 1 goalie. As conflicts arise throughout the season, the House League Director can approve substitute players of the same age/skill level. After the 4th game, the board will review the results and adjust teams to ensure parity.

There are many benefits to 3v3 hockey including increased puck touches, team play, transitioning from offense to defense, fast paced, playing in tight spaces, etc.

If you have any questions about this program, please reach out to the House League Director. If you have any questions during registration contact our Registrar.

Goalie Skills

One of our priorities is expand upon the offerings for our goalies, and to give more players the opportunity to try playing goalie. This is a free drop-in session available for all of our existing goalies of all skill level, as well as anyone who is interested in goalie. For those teams who will be rotating goalies each week, we highly encourage the players who will be playing goalie that week to come to this session. We want kids to have the opportunity to get some coaching on how to use the pads and get some tips to be more successful and, more importantly, have some fun with it! Again, this is open to anyone in our program but if your child is interested in joining and needs to borrow pads, please let your coach know so we can ensure everyone has the equipment needed to participate.

SSC Goalie Crease Clinics
South Shore Conference offers a free Goalie Crease / Goaltender Clinic to our program.

Mass Crease
Mass Crease goalie skills packages at a reduced rate. This has been a great offering to help our more serious goalies get some additional training at the Mass Crease facility in Norwell. As in the past, a 10-pack of lessons will be available at a reduced rate. This will be offered to our declared goalies only at this time. Details on how to book your session will be sent to our goalies after registration. For more information contact our Registrar or WYH Executive Board (wyhexeccomm@gmail.com)
